BNP Tarique Rahman Urges Unity for Law and Order Upon Return

Tarique Rahman Returns After 17 Years

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman lands in Dhaka on 25 December 2025 after nearly 17
years in self-imposed exile in London. Therefore, thousands of supporters greet him at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport amid tight security. He addresses the crowd at July 36 Expressway, calling for national
unity.

Rahman arrives with wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman. In addition, his
return boosts BNP morale ahead of 12 February elections under interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. As a result,
it marks a pivotal moment post-Sheikh Hasina’s 2024 ouster.

The homecoming coincides with his mother Khaleda Zia’s poor health. BNP deems his past
convictions politically motivated, now cleared by courts. As a result,
surveys rank BNP as the election frontrunner
ahead of the barred Awami League.

Urgent Call for Law and Order

Tarique Rahman urges all citizens to join hands for maintaining law and order,
regardless of party or faith. “Whatever political party we belong to,
whatever religion we believe in… all must join hands,
” he declares
amid recent unrest including youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi’s killing.

He warns of emerging anarchy and cautions BNP supporters to stay vigilant. In addition,
Rahman echoes Martin Luther King: “I have a plan for the people of my
country.”
This plan focuses on development, safety for all
communities, and changing Bangladesh’s fortunes.

BNP’s Political Vision and Reforms

Rahman outlines BNP priorities: institutional independence, transparency, judicial and
law-enforcement reforms. He pushes deregulation, e-governance, whistleblower protections, and financial audits. As a
result, these aim to combat corruption if BNP gains power.

The party eyes safe Bangladesh for Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians from hills and
plains. Moreover, every citizen should leave home and return safely. BNP plans five million supporters for his
welcome, signaling strong base.

His return shifts dynamics post-Hasina era. However, Awami League warns of unrest risks.
Interim authorities promise fair polls despite violence concerns.

Background and Exile History

Tarique Rahman, 60, son of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, fled Bangladesh in 2008 amid
graft, money laundering charges. Courts convicted him, including in arms smuggling case, but acquitted post-Hasina
fall. Therefore, BNP hails it as vendetta clearance.

He led BNP remotely from London since 2008. Now, as acting chairman, frontrunner for PM
per polls and media like Reuters, DW. In addition, BNP regains traction after student protests toppled Awami
League.

Exile stemmed from cases BNP deems fabricated. High Court sentences included seven years
in 2016, now overturned. As a result, Rahman positions as democratic alternative.

Election Stakes and Regional Impact

February elections could install Rahman as PM, ending Yunus interim rule. BNP leads IRI
survey; Jamaat-e-Islami competes. However, Hasina’s exile in India and Awami League ban heighten tensions.

Rahman’s plan emphasizes peace, security, unity against volatility. Social media buzz
from Firstpost, Instagram amplifies reach. Therefore, his homecoming galvanizes opposition ahead of polls.

India watches closely given border ties and Hasina refuge. As a result, BNP’s rise
