President Putin Visits to India in December 2025: Dates Await Official Confirmation

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India in the first week of December 2025 for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit, but the Government of India and the Kremlin have not yet released the final dates. Preparations are in progress, and officials indicate that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) will announce the official schedule shortly.

Expected Duration and Tentative Dates

Multiple diplomatic sources suggest that Putin will be in India for 1–2 days, most likely between December 4–6, 2025. Some reports indicate a possible arrival on December 5, which would align with key engagements such as the Russia–India Forum plenary or the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the visit’s exact length remains fluid until the MEA or the Kremlin issues a formal confirmation.

Strategic Importance of the Visit

This will be Putin’s first visit to India since 2021, marking a significant moment in the 25th anniversary of the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.” Officials in Moscow describe it as an “extremely grand and fruitful” state visit.

India and Russia plan to use the summit to advance cooperation across several strategic domains:

  • Defence: Ongoing discussions on the S-400 system, joint development prospects, and potential conversations around platforms such as the Su-57.

  • Maritime and Security Cooperation: Strengthening naval ties and enhancing collaboration in the Indo-Pacific and wider Eurasian region.

  • Trade & Economic Mechanisms: Expanding bilateral trade, developing long-term energy frameworks, and exploring financial channels that bypass Western sanctions.

  • Regional Stability: Coordinating positions on key geopolitical developments amid an evolving global environment.

Diplomatic Momentum

The summit builds on a series of recent high-level exchanges, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Moscow and continued communication between Modi and Putin. Both sides see the meeting as an opportunity to reaffirm their strategic autonomy, deepen political dialogue, and set priorities for 2025 and beyond.
