PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Rs 11,000 Crore Highway Projects in Delhi-NCR to Combat Traffic Congestion
TNT News Desk | On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major highway projects in the National Capital Region (NCR)—the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Valued at around Rs 11,000 crore, these infrastructural developments are set to significantly improve connectivity and alleviate the persistent traffic congestion that has long plagued the region.
The Dwarka Expressway, a key 27-km arterial route connecting Delhi and Gurgaon, has been largely completed, with the entire expressway becoming fully operational in June 2025. The 10.1 km Delhi section, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 5,360 crore, was recently inaugurated. Alongside this, the Urban Extension Road-II, designed to function as a major ring road providing alternative traffic routes, has seen four of its five construction packages completed and inaugurated, enhancing traffic flow across Delhi-NCR.
These highways aim to reduce travel times, decongest critical corridors, and improve connectivity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additionally, the projects are expected to curb vehicular pollution by facilitating smoother and faster journeys.
At the inauguration, PM Modi underscored the importance of world-class infrastructure in supporting economic growth and urban development. He emphasized that easing traffic congestion is essential not only for improving daily commuter experiences but also for boosting productivity in one of India’s most densely populated and economically significant areas.
Officials highlighted that the completion of these highways will foster better regional connectivity, attract investments, and promote balanced urban development across Delhi and its neighboring cities. Residents and commuters are optimistic these projects will bring relief from long hours spent in traffic jams while enhancing road safety and efficiency.
The launch of the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II marks a significant milestone in India’s ambitious infrastructure expansion agenda. These developments reinforce the government’s commitment to building smart, sustainable urban ecosystems. Positioned to become a central transportation hub, the Delhi-NCR region stands to benefit from these roads that will shape the future of metropolitan mobility for years to come.
