Afghanistan, China, Pakistan Hold 6th FMs Meeting in Kabul
TNT News Desk | In a significant diplomatic development aimed at enhancing regional cooperation, the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, China, and Pakistan convened in Kabul for the 6th trilateral meeting. The gathering focused on strengthening diplomatic, economic, and security ties amid a complex and evolving geopolitical landscape in South Asia.
Hosted by Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, the meeting brought together his counterparts from China and Pakistan to deliberate on expanding collaboration in areas including trade, infrastructure, counterterrorism, and regional stability. Key discussions revolved around integrating Afghanistan more deeply into China’s Belt and Road Initiative, with Beijing pledging support for major infrastructure projects to boost connectivity.
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to facilitating Afghanistan’s peace and development, emphasizing the importance of stable borders and coordinated efforts to tackle extremist threats. The ministers also addressed cross-border trade facilitation and measures to enhance people-to-people contacts, signaling an intent to improve economic integration within the region.
The dialogue comes at a time when Afghanistan seeks broader international engagement following years of conflict and political transition. China, keen on securing its western borders and expanding its influence, has intensified its focus on Afghanistan as a strategic partner, while Pakistan continues to play a pivotal role in shaping regional dynamics.
The meeting concluded with a joint statement underscoring the parties’ commitment to peace, security, and economic prosperity, highlighting plans for future cooperation frameworks and regular diplomatic exchanges. The ministers agreed to continue working closely to resolve outstanding issues and advance shared interests.
While this trilateral engagement marks an important step toward fostering stability in a historically turbulent region and reflects a collective resolve to build a more interconnected and peaceful South Asia, India watches it keenly. In the meantime, Afghanistan’s Taliban government announced that China has invited it to join the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to integrate the country into regional infrastructure projects.
